Glasgow City Council, working in partnership with other organisations, provides services which aim to ensure the safety and protection of vulnerable adults, young people and children, and to support families and individuals to maintain independence and to exercise choice about the way they live their lives. Information on these services is provided in this section of Glasgow City Council's web site. - Carers
Carers are people who look after a partner, relative or friend who cannot manage without help because of illness, including mental illness, dementia, frailty or disability. They may or may not live together. In September 1999 the Scottish Executive produced a carers strategy. Glasgow City Council and its planning partners have produced a Joint Carers Strategy and a Joint Young Carers Strategy aimed at delivering the objectives laid out in the national strategy and it is Glasgow's intention to continue to develop quality support services to carers. - Carers Assessment

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers is a national charity. The Trust exists to make it easier for carers to cope by providing information, support and practical help to carers. - The Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care
The Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care (The Care Commission) is a new national organisation set up under the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001 to regulate and inspect Scottish care services. The Care Commission operates throughout Scotland and has five regional offices with local resource offices to co-ordinate regulation of care services at a local level. - Carers Information

Rethink Carers is a new website for all mental health carers. The website has been designed with carers involvement. It builds on the work of hundreds of Rethink severe mental illness groups and services around the country.
