Glasgow City Council provides a range of support for sensory impaired people living in the City. Users include- deaf, deafened and hearing impaired: blind and visually impaired people; deafblind individuals. Carers, families and professionals also use our services. Services include assessment of social care and technical needs and provision of equipment and assistive devices to help with independent living. Contact details are provided for arranging services. - Sign Language Interpreter Service
This is the website of the Glasgow City Council Sign Language Interpreter Service. The SLIS provides Sign to English and English to Sign interpreting and translating in a wide range of settings. It also provides training on how to use an interpreter, translation of text into sign and communication skills assessments. The site contains information on the functions of the service and guidelines for both interpreters and service users to adhere to. Deaf Connections is one of the world's oldest charities working with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Based in Glasgow and operating health services throughout Scotland including training in British Sign Language and related subjects, literacy and numeracy support, health information and advice, ICT training, communication services, community development, clubs and youth activities. Deafblind UK is currently assisting thousands of deafblind or dual sensory impaired people throughout the country to cope with their disability and to lead as fulfilled and independent lives as possible. Deafblind UK offers comprehensive services to deafblind people, their support assistants and other professionals. These include training in communication and rehabilitation skills; a free 24 hour helpline; a regional network of staff and volunteers; a varied leisure programme and a range of publications in different reading formats. - DisabledGo
This is an access information service for disabled people which now covers a number of areas in the UK including Glasgow. Users can check out how accessible Glasgow's shops, pubs and other premises really are. The aim of the site is to enable disabled people (along with friends, family and carers) to participate more fully in community life by providing free detailed access information. DisabledGo access guides provide detailed and accurate data for people with hearing, vision or mobility impairments about access in each town and city featured. The Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) is a registered charity representing deaf and hard of hearing people in the United Kingdom. The website contains latest news on relevant issues, information including a directory of services for the deaf and hard of hearing, a comprehensive database of equipment, and leaflets and factsheets, details of services on offer such as communication services and training courses and disability solutions for businesses which want to improve their services for disabled people.
